As a young student, Sarah wasn’t excited by
academia. A daydreamer, her thoughts were often consumed by what she could next
create: a drawing, a painting, needlework or a photograph. At just 16, she
transformed her parents’ basement into a black and white photography darkroom
and created a summer job for herself photographing children.

She pursued a higher education in the arts, but the “real
world” soon beckoned by way of an engagement and a regular house payment, landing
her at a mortgage company following college. But her day job did not stifle her
thirst for creativity. Since childhood, an avid sewer, she set to work making
her house a home with custom balloon and roman shades and draperies.

Her friends and coworkers quickly noticed her artistry and
began commissioning window treatments for their own homes. Her side passion
quickly blossomed into a full-time job, eventually morphing from window
treatments to residential interior design.

For the next 28 years, Sarah designed beautiful spaces
steeped in cozy imperfection. Under an impeccable eye for fabric, trim,
furniture and carpet, Sarah transformed home interiors into stunning yet
approachable living spaces, rich in artistic creativity and inspired by the
decorative style of Charleston, the English home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan
Grant and “English country” interiors of Nancy Lancaster. Always favoring a
“lived-in” style, Sarah often chose to re-cover rather than replace existing
furniture, believing that character and family heirlooms are essential in
creating an elegant and comfortable space. Favored fabrics such as Thibaut,
Clarence House, Jane Shelton, Schumacher, Brunschwig et Fils and Indian block
prints helped manifest her vision.

An artist’s drive to expand creatively is ever-present, and
Sarah soon set about writing the next chapter in her story. A purchase of a
monogramming machine piqued her interest, but not in its traditional function.
Instead, she experimented with digitization, hand-drawing art that could be
traced by an embroidery machine’s needle and incorporating designer home décor
fabrics for a collage effect.

Now, as a textile artist, Sarah uses this process to recreate
stories and memories on fabric. A commissioned pillow or piece of framed art
starts with a good old-fashioned phone call with her customer and a photograph.
Whatever the memory––a beloved pet, a childhood moment, a family member who
has passed––Sarah’s gift of drawing out the emotions associated with memorable
moments, and adding artistic dimension to them, is priceless.

Much like the interiors, she’s transformed; her commissioned
art and pillows feature a careful selection of fabric, color, texture and
placement to create a memorable piece that brings joy and feels, in essence,
like home.
