Just how I create my art

Artist Statement

I have created with my hands for as long as I can remember.  I also have a passion for interior design and
for all things miniature. As my life path weaves along I bring these interests
together by creating rooms in miniature.

I am a self-taught artist, both in my former career in interior design and now in my textile art. Dependent on a machine's process, drawing a scene must be created sequentially, even though what comes from my pen is not in that order. Once I am happy with a drawing, I can begin to stitch it out on an embroidery machine.

My pieces are created layer by layer. By repurposing interior design
memo samples and used fabrics, I create a composition. The details build slowly
as I assemble, choose and place each successive piece of fabric. I have a keen
eye for detail, and take special care to drape the fold of a curtain or to
stuff a cushion.

I am influenced by the paintings of Vanessa Grant and Duncan Bell. Kit
Kemp’s use of crafts in her interiors delights me. I create rooms that I can
feel a part of.  My hope is that the
viewer will also want to inhabit these spaces.
